Vehicle Tracking Systems are very useful for companies to keep track of their employees and make sure that they aren’t wasting time or using company resources for personal gain. They have become much more common, especially for truck fleet companies.
But they might also be used for something for which they weren’t meant. Stalkers have seen an opportunity to use them for keep tabs on an ex or someone they have taken a fancy to.
There was recently a case where an ex police officer from California decided to a vehicle tracking system to stalk his ex girlfriend. He installed it in her car without her consent or knowledge. The girl began to have suspicions because the police officer was showing up at all the same places, at the mall, or certain bars or parties where she would go.
She couldn’t understand how he was finding out about her whereabouts until she checked her car and discovered the vehicle tracking system in a discreet location. Her ex was also a police officer on the Orange County police force.
Clearly these vehicle tracking systems are useful, but just like with any new technology people have found a way to use it for illegal purposes.
